Grand-Slam FAQ's:
.What is the Grand-Slam program? The Grand-Slam program is a tournament series which awards berths and prizes for each tournament. Qualifying consists of a group of tournaments called legs. Each event is a WSL North American Championship qualifier with a prize list for each event. There are four legs with one combined D/E and one C/D combo event. Teams earn series points thru their participation in the tournament legs. The Grand-Slam program is set up to let teams seek solid competition during the qualifying season before the State and National tournaments start.
.Our team is not from Central Ohio. Can we travel to play in the series? The tournament series is open for all ASA/WSL sanctioned teams to participate in. The tournaments in each leg are placed in Central Ohio parks but there have historically been teams that travel in and participate regularly in the Central Ohio ASA/WSL program. We would welcome those teams to travel in and continue there support of the ASA/WSL.
.Our team can only play once or twice this season. Can we still earn berths and prizes? Yes, teams can earn berths in any Grand-Slam tournament leg they play. Teams are not required to play all 4 tournaments to be eligible to play in the Grand-Slam series. However, teams will be required to play in two events to be eligible for the overall points title. The legs are strategically placed so as not to interfere with other big ASA/WSL events like NIT's in Ohio. By having one leg a month, this gives teams more options as to how much they want to participate in ASA/WSL this year. Play as much as you want or as little as you want.
.Our team also plays in the NIT's. Will there still be bonus points for playing in those events? No, the overall standings will be determined solely on the four legs. This way a team that wins a "big" event doesn't ride those points to the overall title.
.What do we get if we are the overall points leaders? The overall points leaders in each class will earn travel money to be paid out at the WSL North American Championships. We are working on some type of paid berths for second and third as well. There will also be sponsor awards added for top three teams in each classification.
.Are there any additional costs to join the Grand-Slam program? No, the only costs are the same as the other central Ohio ASA/WSL tournaments. There are sanction fees of $25-ASA & $30-WSL and the entry fee for each leg. So sanction up and see where you stand with the area and states best teams!!!
