Sonya Naryshkin M.D.

In 1981, Dr. Naryshkin graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Sigma Xi Honor Societies. She began her academic medical career while researching the effects of aging with Dr. Calvin Lang.

Dr. Naryshkin was a postdoctoral research fellow in immunology at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her residency in pathology and laboratory medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She served as Assistant Instructor in Pathology from 1982-1986. She completed additional research work simultaneously at the Wi star Institute. She completed a fellowship in Cytopathology at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. She is certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with added qualification in Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology and also by the International Academy of Cytology Board of Cytopathology. She is a Fellow of the International Academy of Cytology.

From 1987 to 1991, Dr.Naryshkin served as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Director of Cytology at Hahnemann University Hospital and Medical School. During this period, she taught and mentored medical students, graduate students, undergraduate allied health students, medical residents and practicing physicians. Her reputation for excellence in her sub specialty of cytopathology reached the international arena. She subsequently published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to speak at local, regional, national and international scientific meetings. She has also served on several international, national, regional and local professional societies. This impressive list includes the College of American Pathologists (Cytopathology Resources Committee, Laboratory Accreditation Inspector, Nominating Committee, Editor of the PAP Quarterly Newsletter), The International Academy of Cytology (Task force for Standardization of Quantitative and Analytical Methods in Diagnostic Pathology), The American Society of Cytopathology(Membership Committee) and the Camden County Medical Society(Public Relations Committee, Subcommittee on Aging). She is a referee of several scientific journals.

Presently Dr. Naryshkin is Pathologist and Director of Cytopathology at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, Wisconsin as well as Honorary Adjunct Professor of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. To date, she has published more than 50 scientific articles and continues to be a prominent presence in the field of cytopathology. She is the Chair of the Committee to follow legislative and regulatory proceedings of the American Society of Cytopathology, a member of the International Academy of Cytology's Laboratory Guidelines Committee and serves on the Board of Censors and as a Liaison to the Wisconsin Society of Cytology for the Wisconsin Society of Pathologists.

Dr. Naryshkin also participates in endeavors beyond the field of medicine. She is vice-president of Operations for a private consulting and marketing company that she and her husband, Victor J. Sobolewski III, D.O., own. This enables her to help others establish their own private franchise businesses successfully. To date, she and her husband have personally mentored hundreds of people, lecturing on success principles across the United States. They have offered their advice and expertise to crowds of up to 5,000 business owners.

Dr. Naryshkin is a dedicated member of her local community and has assumed many roles in community organizations including the Lakeview Elementary PTA, Badger Council of Girl Scouts, and Richmond 4-H Club. She has three active children: a 14 year old daughter and two 6 year old sons. She is proud to be able to help strengthen family values by helping families achieve time and financial management success. Dr. Naryshkin also enjoys a wide range of interests that include horseback riding, sailing, and dancing. She danced the HulalTahitian semi-professionally during her high school years with Napua and the Wahinis and intermittently thereafter. Adding to the diversity of her talents, she also played the mandolin with the Nardini Ensemble in Philadelphia during the 1980's.

While continuing to balance her diverse responsibilities, Dr. Naryshkin moves forward in medicine to advance research in the field of cytopathology. It is with great pride that the Toms River Schools Hall of Fame honors Sonya Naryshkin, M.D. for her superior contributions in the field of medicine.
