Max CulpepperMax Culpepper is the Coordinator of Music, Conductor/Musical Director of Wind Symphony, and Director of the Marching Band at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.Mr. Culpepper holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Trenton State College. He has also studied trombone privately under David Uber of New York City and Henry Smith of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Prior to his becoming Coordinator of Music at Dartmouth, Mr. Culpepper was for five years an assistant professor of music and band director at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, and spent three years in a similar capacity at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He has also taught at the New England Conservatory, Glassboro and Trenton State Colleges and at high schools in Cherry Hill, Somerdale, and Brick in New Jersey. Mr. Culpepper has been since 1970 a Guest Conductor for All State Orchestras in eleven states including New York and New Jersey. Honored by Downbeat Magazine for three years (1981, 82, 83) as conductor of the Best College Symphonic Band, Mr. Culpepper has also toured in England and Romania, performed on N. J. Public Television, and has numerous recordings to his credit. In addition to his talents as a musician, Mr. Culpepper is also a sailing champion. In 1953, 54, 57 he was the Barnegat Bay Champion in Comet and Jet 14 classes, a National Champion in 1956, 58, 63, and 66 and an Olympic Trials Finalist in 1964, Flying Dutchman class.
