Dr. Bambi Bernhardt SchieffelinDr. Schieffelin is currently an assistant professor in the NYU Department of Anthropology.She has a BS in Comparative Literature, an MA in Developmental Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Anthropology, all from Columbia University. She has over twenty-four articles in scholarly journals and is the author of Acquiring Conversational Competence and How Kaluli Children Learn What to Say, What to Do, and How to Feel. Dr. Schieffelin has been awarded numerous grants for her anthropological research which have taken her as far away as Bolivia and New Guinea. She has earned international prominence for her scholarly work in linguistics, literacy, and infant care.
